Far From the Delta are a blues trio with a rock edge. They take delta blues, Chicago blues, the British blues explosion and make the songs their own. Not content with just covering other people's songs, they have recorded an album of original material which they also perform. This makes them versatile as far as the type of venues/events they can perform at. They can manage over two hours of performance as an electric three piece (which is how they prefer to perform), an hour and a half as an acoustic three piece and similar if J Way performs on his own.
Far From the Delta are:
J Way- vocals/guitar/harmonica
Leigh Pooley- guitar/backing vocals
Sammy Joe- bass/backing vocals
Phil Ward- drums/backing vocals
Artists the band cover include: Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Cream, The Doors, Fleetwood Mac, Booker T and the MG's, George Thorogood, Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Son House, Robert Johnson, Elmore James.
J Way also puts on a local jam/open mic night in the band's hometown of Crediton, plus regular blues nights in the town. Leigh Pooley also plays guitar in the heavy metal band Chiasmodon. Phil Ward is also frontman/guitarist of local ska legends, Skaper. Sammy Joe has been known to dj from time to time.
